Maple Bacon Donuts

The sweet aroma of maple syrup paired with the music of bacon frying will be sure to trigger salivary glands as your family descends for breakfast on a cool winter day. I would have declined the ever so loved donut in a past time, until one day I met this beast, the Maple Bacon Donut. You too can experience what I can only describe as divinity as the saltiness of the bacon marries the sticky sweet glaze on a warm fried ball of dough. Yum!

For the recipe:

Batter

  • 1 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 2 tbs baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 eggs

  • 3/4 cup whole milk

  • 1 tbs coconut oil

  • oil for deep frying

Glaze

  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar

  • 4 tbs maple syrup

  • 1 tbs whole milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 8 oz cooked bacon, chopped

Instructions

1. In a mixing bowl, combine both flours, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

2. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and coconut oil then add to flour mixture and combine.

3. Heat fry oil (we use lard) to 350 degrees in a heavy bottomed pan.

4. Roll spoon sized balls of batter with some flour on your hands and gently drop into oil, cook each side for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside when golden brown.

5. In a small bowl, mix confectioner's sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

6. Roll donuts in glaze, remove and top with bacon.

7. Allow to cool for best results, makes approximately 2 dozen donuts.

Enjoy!

I saw you and Eric make these watching one of your YouTube videos. These look delicious. By the size relative to your hand, they appear to be of similar size to donut holes. Is this correct? Thanks for the recipe.
